About The World Bank Group Young Professionals Program

The term Young Professionals refers to young people in their 20s and 30s who are recent graduates of professional schools and/or are employed in a professional career. The WBG Young Professionals Program is a two-year leadership development program at the start of the five-year employment contract with the World Bank, IFC, or MIGA.

However, the World Bank and IFC for over 50 years have recruited more than 1,800 people from almost 120 countries across the globe through the Young Professionals Program. The recruits now range from new staff to senior management of the World Bank Group.

WBG Young Professionals Program Features

Professional Experience:

Through the YPP the Young Professionals learn the key aspects of the World Bank Group’s work and also directly engage with their clients. Moreover, the Young professionals are full-time employees of the WBG. Therefore, they make significant contributions to their unit’s work program.

Leadership Development:

Through activities like leadership and professional development workshops, mentorship etc. The Young Professionals develop the knowledge to contribute to the WBG’s work and the capability to lead.

Training:

Through the YPP curriculum, the Young Professionals take part in an intensive training to ensure that they develop the foundational learning needed to understand and contribute to the WBG.

Field Work:

Due to the nature of the WBG’s work, the Young Professionals are expected to make constant field trips which is also known as missions. Eligibility Requirements For World Bank Group Young Professionals Program

Moreover, the applicant must meet up with the following criteria in order to be eligible for World Bank Group Young Professional Program:

  • Candidates must be born on or after October 1, 1989
  • Applicants can apply from any country, but the WBG gives preference to citizens from its member countries.
  • Candidates must hold a Doctorate (PhD) or Master’s (MSc) qualification or equivalent with relevant work experience

World Bank Group Young Professionals Program Selection Procedure

The WBG Young Professionals Program selection procedure comprises of 4 stages:

1. Application Stage:

This stage follows after the candidate have received a message from the selection team that means that the candidate is approved for the second, which is to determine shortlisted candidates

3. Interview and Assessment:

4. Final Stage:

This is the final stage of the selection process. Offers are extended and decisions announced to the shortlisted candidates. Then the new WBG YPP unit joins the World Bank Group.
